Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who has formed an exploratory committee for governor of Michigan, came in third in a Wayne County Republican straw poll this week.
Detroit, where Craig served, is the largest city in Wayne County and the state of Michigan. Craig’s exploratory video emphasizes the lack of riots that took place in Detroit in 2020, taking partial responsibility for the rebuilding of the Detroit Police Department. Craig says that Michigan needs more politicians who are willing to “lead from the front,” leading by example.
Craig also announced his bi-partisan effort for support for law enforcement, the Law Enforcement Action Team (LEAT), this week, saying “we need to lead from the front and implement a similar strategy with new public policy that will solve the public safety crisis in our state. Liberal politicians at the national, state, and local level are part of the problem rather than part of the solution.”
Craig’s program currently has bi-partisan support from two Michigan Democrats who serve on the team: Sheriff Mike Shea (D) and Sheriff Anthony M. Wickersham (D).
Another current law enforcement officer announced his bid for the Michigan gubernatorial on Friday, saying that he is a “lifelong conservative Republican.”
Michael Brown, a captain and 33-year veteran of the Michigan State Police, wrote on Twitter:
“Michigan, I am putting it all on the line FOR A GREAT MICHIGAN! I look forward to hearing from you and presenting [my] vision, leadership, and respect for all citizens to every region of the state,” he said.

Brown has also served in the United States Marine Corps and as a local elected official, according to his campaign website.
The Wayne County congressional district Republican committees held a unified summer convention on Wednesday and held an informal straw poll for precinct delegates about who they supported to take on incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D).
Results released by the organizers of the poll showed that Ryan Kelley came in first with 69 votes, or 23.1 percent. Garrett Soldano was a close second with 62 votes, or 20.8 percent. Wayne County resident and former Detroit Police Chief Craig was voted third with 49 votes, or 16.4 percent.
Ralph Rebandt and Tudor Dixon were the other potential nominees within the top five polling.
In the same straw poll, Wayne County Republicans delegates gave their opinion on the 2024 presidential primary.
Former President Donald Trump came in first with 115 votes, or 36.5 percent. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) was second with 85 votes, or 26.9 percent. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) came in third with 57 votes, or 10 percent.

The Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer is in a little hot water over her flip-flopping & outright lies. She was quoted as saying she never called to abolish ICE. There’s one BIG problem. She was caught on video calling to abolish ICE in August:
